DC Jmu reviews desilting, cleaning of irrigation canals

Jammu, Jan 27: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr Rakesh Minhas on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the status of desilting and cleaning of kuhls, canals, minor and sub-minor distributaries across the district.

According to a statement issued here, during the meeting, detailed discussions were held on routine maintenance procedures, canal closure schedules, monitoring mechanisms and the tendering process for desilting works.

The Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of adhering to strict timelines for the opening of canals by March this year. “The cleaning operations shall be carried out effectively to ensure desired water flow reaches the Suchetgarh area, which is located at the tail end of the irrigation network,” he emphasised.

The meeting also deliberated on issues related to pollution in water channels and preventive measures to maintain water quality. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for regular monitoring and community participation to keep the irrigation infrastructure functional and free from pollution.
