Srinagar, Mar 27: A program regarding awareness of millets was Conducted under Tribal sub-plan on millets at Cherwani Ajas of district Bandipora on 26 03 2025. The programme was conducted by DARS, Rangreth of SKUAST-Kashmir under AICRP on millets and sponsored by Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR), Hyderabad. This programme on millets holds an utmost importance keeping in view the climate change, increased health issues and water scarcity.
The awareness programe started with a welcome address and extensive lecture by Dr. Fayaz Ahmed Bahar, Prof. Incharge, AICRP-millets and highlighted the relevance of millets and it’s further augmentation under the outreach initiative of DARS, Rangreth. Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, senior extensionist gave a detailed lecture of the various activities and schemes focused on the overall development and wellbeing of tribal communities. During the event, various farm implements alongwith millet seed was distributed among the beneficiaries with an emphasis for further expansion in millet production. Around sixty (60) tribal farmers were benefited with onspot feedback for further advancement in millet production in the valley. The tribal farm community appreciated the efforts of the university and were very happy for this new initiative as it will help them to motivate the nearby population for its further advancement in millet production.
