Jammu, Dec 06: State spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and member of media coordination committee, Appu Singh Tuesday termed the issue of daily wagers “a symbol of failure” of successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir and they are still being pushed to the corner and there is no one in the government set up to listen to their genuine demands.
Addressing a press conference, AAP spokesperson said that the issue of daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir is not only an issue of system but is a humanitarian issue as it is concerning the lives of thousands of daily wagers and lakhs of their family members.
She quoted a number of judgements of courts, SROs of Government and other circulars in which emphasis has been laid to redress the genuine issue of daily wagers but overall performance of successive government in Jammu and Kashmir on this issue remained zero.
“Leaders of a political party accuse leaders of other political parties for this issue and this game of allegations between leaders of different political parties is going on since decades but not even a a single political party or government ever bothered to solve the issue,” Appu Singh said.
She further said that during government formation in 2014 BJP made tall promises for regularisation of daily wagers and to end their struggle through a proper solution but the party did nothing while it remained in office.
“Now BJP is framing committees to befool daily wagers but on ground there is not even one percent of development towards the solution,” Appu Singh said, while further training her guns towards LG administration and said that a number of committees have been framed, orders and circulars have been issued and it has been stated that there will be fast track process of regularisitation of daily wagers but things are completely different in practicality.
“If LG administration thinks that by regularisitation of a few hundred daily wagers of Power Department the issue is resolving then this is their big misunderstanding as over sixty thousand daily wagers in J&K await regularisation, time disbursement of salaries and other benefits,” she further added.
She said that the genuine cause of daily wagers should be addressed not only as a systematic issue but as a humanitarian issue.
Appu Singh said that thousands of daily wagers of different government departments including Power development department, Jal Shakti Department, estates department, ICDS are on protest and daily wagers of Jal Shakti Department are on protest since 167 days and government did nothing to pacify their protest which clearly shows that life of a daily wager has no meaning for government.
She further mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir Government and especially Lieutenant Governor himself should intervene in the matter and the issue should be taken as a humanitarian issue and should be resolved at the earliest.
