Srinagar, Dec 31: In a breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police Sunday said they have identified six individuals connected to the fraudulent activities of ‘Curative Survey Private Limited, and arrested one person from Tamil Nadu.
The saga unfolded on December 19, 2023, when it was discovered that the bogus company had lured the public into investing their hard-earned money with deceptive assurances of lucrative returns. Subscribers were left in the lurch as the company turned unresponsive, causing chaos and anguish, and even sparking protests.
The police said in this regard that a case, FIR No. 39/2023, was promptly registered under Section 66D of the IT Act and Section 420 of the IPC at the Cyber Police Station in Kashmir Zone-Srinagar, reflecting the severity of the scam. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was assembled to delve into the intricate web of deceit.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the company had established six offices in the Kashmir Valley and one regional office in Jammu between January and February 2023.
All seven offices were thoroughly searched and sealed, and evidence was seized for analysis. Numerous employees across Jammu and Kashmir were identified and examined, and their statements recorded, police said in a statement.
Statements from victims and digital evidence pinpointed six accused individuals residing outside the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In a decisive move, one accused person has already been apprehended in Tamil Nadu and is in police custody, while efforts are underway to nab the remaining culprits.
To assess the financial loss suffered by victims, the company’s account numbers have been frozen, and a comprehensive investigation is ongoing. The involvement of local contacts and employees connected to the main accused are also under scrutiny.
In an intriguing twist, social media influencers who promoted the company through various platforms are being investigated for their potential involvement in the scam, Police said adding the Cyber Police Station in Kashmir Zone Srinagar has received 27 complaints so far, urging the general public to step forward with any additional grievances against the company.
