Srinagar, Sep 29: The Cultural Unit Kashmir of Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with Sri Pratap College Srinagar on Thursday organised a day long awareness cum Cultural programme under the “NashaMukt J&K Abhiyan” at Auditorium of the College, here.
The objectives of the campaign is to increase community participation and sensitization of the people who become vulnerable to drug abuse.
This is worth mentioning here that to achieve the objectives, government is taking several measures like preventive education and organizing awareness generation programmes in educational institutions, identification of adolescents and youth vulnerable to addiction through peer led intervention and provide counseling and treatment by rehabilitation centers/ hospitals, formation of student clubs in colleges to discuss and spread awareness, monitoring of treatment and counseling facilities in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Students of SP college participated in a speech competition on “Say no to drugs” while as Cultural Unit artists joined by Shehr-e-Khas Literary and Welfare Society and SP College students presented thematic colorful cultural programmes including Kashmiri traditional rouf, skit, rap music, group dance and Ladishah on the occasion.
An impactful documentary film highlighting the ill effects of drug addiction “Badhtay Kadam” prepared by the Cultural Unit Kashmir was also screened during the function.
Cultural officer Kashmir Burhan Hussain while administrating the pledge, encouraged students to hold awareness talks with people who were addicted to drugs or their family members and direct them towards de-addiction.
He also urged teachers to create awareness of substance abuse among students and give special attention to those found to be addicted to drugs and help them lead a disciplined life.
Principal SP College Prof. Khurshid Ahmad Khan asserted that the Government is trying its utmost to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from the society. Student performers and other artists were felicitated with the certificates of appreciation.
The function was attended by the faculty of SP College, Officers of Cultural Unit and a large number of students.
