Ganderbal, June 26: To raise awareness about the ill-effects of drug abuse and promote healthy living among youth, Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Ganderbal observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with a walkathon at its Tulmulla Campus.
The event, themed “Mission Drug-Free Campus,” was organised by the Dean Students Welfare, Health Centre & NSS in collaboration with the Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS), Kashmir.
The walkathon drew participation from faculty members, administrative staff, students, NSS volunteers, and representatives from IMHANS. The marchers carried placards bearing messages against substance abuse, pledging solidarity for a cleaner, healthier, and addiction-free academic environment.
Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, praised the initiative, emphasizing the university’s commitment to the physical and mental well-being of its students. “Drug abuse is not just a personal problem; it’s a societal crisis. Our collective vigilance, education, and empathy are the tools to fight it,” he remarked.
Dean DSW, Prof. Irfan Aalam, underlined the psychological and physiological consequences of drug abuse, and encouraged students to take ownership of their choices while supporting peers in distress.
The walkathon concluded with a reaffirmation of the university’s vision of fostering a drug-free, inclusive, and empowering learning space where students thrive academically and personally.
