Kulgam, August 27: M.Y. Tarigami, CPI(M) leader and former MLA of Kulgam, filed his nomination papers on Tuesday from the Kulgam constituency as part of the Alliance.
The Kulgam constituency was allocated to the CPI(M) by Congress and the National Conference, allowing Tarigami to contest from this seat.
Tarigami has won the Kulgam constituency for four consecutive times since 1996.
Initially, the CPI(M) had planned to field a candidate from the Devsar constituency as well. However, it was later decided that the CPI(M) would not contest there, a decision to which Tarigami agreed.
“We had some issues with the Devsar constituency where the CPI(M) had nominated a candidate, but after Dr. Farooq sahib spoke with Tarigami sahib, he agreed not to field anyone,” Omar Abdullah told reporters the other day.
