Srinagar, Aug 08: The Jammu and Kashmir State Committee of the Communist of India (Marxist) on Thursday paid homage to the veteran CPI(M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya who passed away.
The CPI(M) in a statement honoured Bhattacharya’s legacy and commitment to the cause of the people, saying his death has sent shockwaves across the country. Bhattacharya has left behind a legacy of unwavering commitment to serving the toiling people, it said.
The party in its tributes said that Bhattacharya was a multifaceted individual who dedicated his life to the cause of the people. As a writer, intellectual, and selfless politician, he was widely respected for his unwavering dedication to the working class, it said.
“His passing has left a significant void in our lives,” said senior CPI-M leader Mohmad Yusuf Tarigami, who worked closely with Bhattacharya for many years. “He was a true champion of the working class movement and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him.”
Bhattacharya’s last public appearance was as Chief Minister of West Bengal during his visit to Kashmir in 2010. His commitment to the people’s cause was evident in his tireless efforts to promote social justice and economic development.
