Jammu, Jan 06: CPI(M) leader and Kulgam MLA Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Tuesday warned that the US action against Venezuela was a message to the entire world, saying that if such “madness” was not restrained, the sovereignty of other countries would also come under threat. The remarks came as the CPI(M) held a protest in Jammu, where party leaders and workers took to the streets to condemn what they termed as US aggression and President Donald Trump’s action against Venezuela, raising slogans and denouncing interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation. He said the elected government of Venezuela and its president were "kidnapped", while American forces carried out "bombings" in several areas without any provocation. “The claim that there was a threat of trafficking is baseless and has been rejected at the international level,” Tarigami said. “Our belief is that protests are taking place across the world because people understand that every country has the right to manage its own affairs,” he said, warning that “if this madness is not restrained, the sovereignty of other countries will also come under threat.” Referring to the protest in Jammu, Tarigami said it was a token expression of solidarity with democratic forces worldwide. “Who knows which country may be targeted next if this barbarity is not stopped,” he said. He said global peace could only be ensured when countries, irrespective of ideological differences, were allowed to decide their own future. “If the sovereignty of any nation is threatened and one country seeks to dominate others, global peace will be disturbed and cracks will appear in the international order,” he said. Tarigami said past interventions had led to devastation rather than stability. “Iraq was destroyed after its oil was targeted. Libya faced the same fate. Now they want to destroy Nicaragua because its leadership refused to submit to their dictates,” he said. Calling the US action an act of aggression, Tarigami said, “International law has been violated and United Nations Security Council resolutions have been breached.” He urged the Indian government to join global voices and make efforts to stop what he termed as a war being waged by America against Venezuela.
