Srinagar, May 10: Two teenage players from Pampore in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have won gold medals at the second World Mixed Boxing Championship.
Ansheera Mushtaq and her cousin, Zehran Ashiq, both residents of Konibal locality in Pampore, won the gold medals at the championship held in Srinagar by the Indian Mixed Boxing Federation, an affiliate of the World Mixed Boxing Federation.
Ansheera Mushtaq, a ninth-grade student at Birla Open Minds International School in Gallander, Pampore, expressed her happiness at representing her country at the event. She has been playing since the age of 10 and has won three gold, two silver, and nine bronze medals so far. She hopes to participate in international events organized in other countries and looks at sports as a career option, citing its scope.
Zehran Ashiq, a seventh-grade student at Birla Open Minds International School, defeated his opponents from Nepal and Sri Lanka to win gold. He attributed his win to his parents, coach Sajad Sir, and teachers who supported him at all levels. Zehran has been playing the game for a few years and has won three gold, six silver, and three bronze medals in different events.
The World Mixed Boxing Championship was a chance for both Ansheera and Zehran to showcase their skills and bring laurels for their country.
