Samba, May 06: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare, Sheetal Nanda on Saturday laid emphasis on the need for coordinated efforts to make district Samba free from the menace of drug abuse. She highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns and community involvement in the fight against this social menace.
“Drug abuse is a grave problem, and we need to tackle it with a multi-pronged approach. The coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and NGOs can help us in achieving our goal of a drug-free Samba district,” she said, adding, “I commend the efforts of our women police officers who have done exemplary work in catching drug suppliers and peddlers.”
On Saturday, Sheetal Nanda visited Mandi Gurgalian of the district and inaugurated ‘Parisha’ – a child care institution for Girls Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Abhishek Sharma, MD ICPS, Harvinder Kour and SSP Samba Benam Tosh and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
The inaugurated ‘Parisha’ is a 25-bedded institution that has been designed to provide a safe and secure environment for girl children in need. The facility has been equipped with counsellors, teachers, case workers and house mothers to ensure the well-being and safety of the children. The facility also has a library, recreational room, pantry, playroom and other amenities to cater to the needs of the children.
“Parisha is an important addition to our efforts to provide a better future for girl children in need. We believe that every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment and Parisha is an embodiment of that belief. We are committed to supporting the institution while ensuring that it continues to provide the best possible care for the children under its care,” Nanda said.
Deputy Commissioner and MD ICPS also assured their support for the institution and praised the efforts of the team behind Parisha for their dedication and commitment towards the welfare of the children.
“Parisha is a valuable addition to the child care infrastructure in the district, and it is expected to make a significant difference in the lives of the children under its care,” the DC said.
