· MeT forecasts more rainfall, light snow over higher reaches today

Srinagar, Aug 28: Continuous rainfall on Wednesday disrupted normal life across the Kashmir valley and led to decrease in temperatures. The local Meteorological Department has forecasted more rain in plains and light snowfall over isolated higher reaches over the next 48 hours, officials said.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that as expected rains lash plains and higher reaches on Wednesday and it will continue during the next two days in the region.
“The weather will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours,” he said.
Dr. Mukhtar said that day temperature is likely to fall with the possibility of light snowfall over isolated extreme higher reaches on August 29.
“A spell of light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur at many places on August 30 while from August 31 to September 1 there is a possibility of a brief spell of rain or thundershower at many places,” he said.
The MeT Director said that from September 2 to 3 the weather will generally remain cloudy with the possibility of spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places while the weather will generally remain dry from September 4 to 7.
The MeT office has also issued an advisory of intense showers for a brief period at a few places with heavy rain at isolated places of Jammu division during the next 48 hours towards late night or early morning.
There is a possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places of Kashmir (South Kashmir) division on August 29 also. The inclement weather may cause flash floods/landslides/mudslides and shooting stones over few vulnerable places over Jammu and Kashmir.
Barring Gulmarg, the minimum temperature was recorded above normal by 1 degree to 2 degree Celsius during the intervening night of August 27 and 28 across the Kashmir valley.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded a low of 18.0°C and maximum temperatures 20.5°C. Qazigund recorded a minimum of 16.0°C and 21.2°C as maximum temperatures. Pahalgam recorded a low of 14.3 °C and 17.8°C as maximum temperature.
Kokernag recorded a minimum of 15.5°C and 20.5°C as maximum temperatures, Gulmarg recorded a low of 9.5°C and 13.2 as maximum temperatures.
Meanwhile during the past 24 hours, there was slow movement observed on Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to breakdown of 02 HMVs, single lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad and between Marog & Kishtwari Pather.
On Thursday, subject to fair weather and better road conditions LMVs Passenger, HMVs shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar highway. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban for road condition, he said.
While traffic movement shall be allowed on regulated manner on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0600 hrs. to 1130 hrs.
Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1330 hrs to 1900 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timing.
On Mughal road, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides viz. from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 0600 hrs. upto 1800 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut of timing, the spokesman said.
