Srinagar, Sept 13: As the newly formed constituency of Kupwara Trehgam gears up for the upcoming elections, there is a palpable sense of anticipation among its residents. Having felt overlooked by successive political leaders, the people are now looking to fresh candidates to address their long-standing issues.
During a recent visit by Rising Kashmir’s correspondent, it became evident that the constituency’s voters are eager for tangible progress. Among the most pressing concerns raised were the lack of basic amenities, including healthcare, recreational spaces for youth, and reliable electricity.
For Irfan Ahmad, a resident, the upcoming polls mark a pivotal moment for Kupwara Trehgam. “There are several issues that need attention. This area has been neglected for a long time, but now that it has been given the status of a constituency, we are hopeful that these issues will be addressed,” Ahmad said with optimism, reflecting the mood of many in the region.
One of the key demands from voters has been the improvement of infrastructure, particularly for the younger generation. A local resident, speaking passionately about the need for youth development, emphasized, “There should be a plan to provide good infrastructure for young people, including playgrounds.” The absence of proper facilities for sports and recreation is seen as a glaring gap, with many hoping the next elected representative will focus on filling this void.
Frequent power outages also remain a significant challenge, with many frustrated by the lack of consistent electricity. Another common demand is the establishment of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) to create more skill development opportunities. “We need an ITI here. It would provide students with the tools they need for a better future,” noted a concerned resident.
Youth education is another area in dire need of attention. A young voter, highlighting the substandard educational infrastructure, expressed his concerns, “We hope this pressing issue will be addressed at the earliest.” There is a growing demand for better school facilities and opportunities for the students of Kupwara Trehgam, as many feel their potential is being stifled by the current conditions.
Shabir Ahmad, another voter from the region, shifted focus to the economic possibilities in Kupwara Trehgam, pointing to the untapped tourism potential. “Tourism needs to be promoted as it can provide good earning opportunities for educated youth,” he said. The area, known for its natural beauty, remains largely underdeveloped in terms of tourism infrastructure. Ahmad believes that with the right leadership, this sector could become a major driver of local economic growth.
As Kupwara Trehgam enters this new phase in its political journey, its residents are hoping for more than just promises. They want action, development, and, most importantly, a leadership that listens. Will the new representatives meet these expectations? Only time will tell.
