Anantnag, Dec 18: “Congress will fight for the protection of jobs, land and natural resources of Jammu and Kashmir, while the BJP government wants to snatch everything after developing a fake narrative about development, employment and other issues,” said Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member and former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Monday.
He made these comments while addressing a party worker’s meeting at Omoh Verinag. In his address, Mir declared” “Congress Party won’t remain silent on people’s aspirations especially the protection of land, jobs and natural resources of J&K, which are the prime target of the BJP Govt to disempower people for the lust of power, besides misleading people in rest of the country after the abrogation of Art 370 and subsequent downgrading of J&K into two UTs.”
The JKPCC leader recalled the “historical role” played by the Congress Party under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, first Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru along with great stalwarts Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and others in the integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India and recognizing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian Constitution while extending certain guarantees in the shape of Article 370 in view of the special circumstances and the unusual situations in which J&K acceded to India after rejecting the two-nation theory despite being the only Muslim majority State, the party said in a statement.
Mir added, “People of both Jammu & Kashmir have realized that they have been pushed towards darkness, economic backwardness, peak unemployment, besides the loot of natural resources under the garb of so-called development of J&K. The reality is that BJP’s agenda to demean and disempower people for the lust of power is known to people.”
We have resolved to seek a big political initiative, safeguarding land, jobs, natural resources and other identities, which the party is taking up at the national level, G A Mir said, adding that the Congress Party is “deeply watching” the development relating to J&K and will do its utmost to ensure protection of people rights, which he said are under assault ever since BJP assumed power at the Centre.
Referring to the current political situation, the Congress leader said, “The denial of democratic rights to people of J&K is highly condemnable and unacceptable. Congress will continue to raise its voice against BJP’s deliberate move to disempower people politically, economically and democratically.”
