Srinagar, Oct 06: Congress on Friday held a strong protest here against the circulation of a highly objectionable poster featuring Rahul Gandhi and demanded a formal apology from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Congress leaders, workers, and Mahila Congress activists from Srinagar gathered at the party office to protest this distasteful incident, denouncing the BJP’s “irresponsible and shameful behaviour”. They described it as a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the BJP’s “evident failures on multiple fronts”.
During the protest, the party leaders and workers marched towards MA Road from the Congress office but were pushed back by a heavy contingent of police, the party said in a statement. The Congress members continued raising slogans against the ruling BJP, accusing it of resorting to character assassination of the opposition in the face of an “imminent defeat” in the 2024 elections.
“The diversionary tactics won’t help BJP anymore,” they said
The Congress in the statement said, “These malicious attempts at character defamation would not deter Rahul Gandhi from speaking out against discrimination, corruption, and the misuse of public funds orchestrated by the BJP in their pursuit of power. Congress would not be intimidated; instead, the BJP’s propaganda since 2014 had only strengthened the party’s resolve to fight against the anti-people policies implemented by the saffron party.”
