Srinagar, Nov 06: In the wake of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly’s resolution calling for the restoration of the region’s special status, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir expressed strong support for the resolution and reiterated his party’s longstanding position on the issue.
Mir recalled that the Congress party had passed a resolution in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on August 5, 2019, opposing the downgrading and bifurcation of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state. He described the BJP-led government’s actions in August 2019, which resulted in the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the state into two Union Territories, as “undemocratic” and “unconstitutional”.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir, through their consistent opposition, have made it clear that they do not accept this imposition,” Mir said while speaking to the media persons.
The Congress leader called for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, with constitutional guarantees to protect the region’s rights, land, jobs, resources and cultural identity.
