Srinagar, Sep 10: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is set to address a major election rally in Anantnag district of south Kashmir on September 11. Preparations for the rally are complete, with Kharge scheduled to address a large gathering before proceeding to Srinagar for a press conference.
Senior Vice President and Chief Spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Ravinder Sharma confirmed that Kharge will deliver his address in Anantnag, followed by interactions in Srinagar.
“He will address the first public rally at Anantnag and after that he will move towards Srinagar, where he will address the Press Conference. All preparations have been completed in this regard,” he said.
Sharma said senior leaders of Congress-NC alliance including NC President Farooq Abdullah, JKPCC Chief Tariq Karra etc will also address the gathering. He said Kharge’s Anantnag visit will boost the party’s prospects.
Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan, National spokesperson, Congress Party said that they expect a massive turnout for President Khargeji’s visit to Anantnag, where they will address the people of the region.
He said the Congress-National Conference alliance is gaining support from the people of Jammu and Kashmir for forming a government that addresses their needs.
Khan criticized the BJP for its conflicting ideologies and lack of a clear development roadmap. He argued that the BJP’s manifesto and policies do not align with the country’s development needs.
“The public is increasingly seeking change and supports the Congress-National Conference alliance. He accused the BJP of failing to deliver relief or address key issues during its 10-year tenure,” he said.
Khan said that alliance’s commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and lauded Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ for fostering trust and promoting democratic principles. The urgent need for a responsive government in the region, pointing to high unemployment and corruption as major concerns, he said.
“Voters should choose an accountable government and expressed confidence in the success of the Congress-National Conference alliance,” Khan said.
Addressing recent allegations by a senior Congress leader against the NC, Khan assured that the Congress leadership is taking the matter seriously and emphasized the importance of following high command directions to maintain the alliance’s unity and objectives.
“The situation is challenging, but our alliance is determined to reach the people and form a government in J&K. We believe our alliance will create a new chapter in J&K’s history. Despite internal disputes, this is not the time for conflict but for action,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Central Election Committee (CEC) of Congress released the list of 19 candidates for different segments contesting upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the list, the CEC has given a mandate of Basohli to Choudhary Lal Singh and R S Pura-Jammu South to Raman Bhalla. The duo was the party’s candidates for the recently held Lok Sabha elections, but faced defeat against the BJP candidates including Dr Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore respectively.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced three-phased Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir, which will be held on September 18 & 25, and October 01. The vote count will be done on October 08.
