Qazigund, Dec 29: Police on Friday arrested four alleged drug peddlers in the Qazigund area of Kulgam district.
A police spokesperson said that under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal the officers launched a crackdown on drug trafficking and are determined to root out the menace from the district.
He said the vigilant team from the Qazigund Police station intercepted two individuals, Ravinder Singh and Satean Singh, both hailing from Jagrawan Ludhiana, Punjab. “The suspects caught carrying nylon bags near the R&B office in Qazigund, attempted to evade the police but were skillfully apprehended after a pursuit. Subsequent inspection of the bags revealed a substantial 11 kilograms of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance,” he said.
Similarly, another significant interception occurred when a police team, led by the IC of Police Post Mirbazar, established a special checkpoint at Alstop. “During a thorough inspection, an auto-load carrier vehicle bearing Registration No JK18B-4430 was halted, and two individuals, Aarif Ahmad Malla from Domidulla Tujan, Anantnag, and Jasweer Singh from Pandoola Jalandhar, Punjab, were detained. Upon inspection, 25 grams of Heroin-like contraband substance was confiscated from their possession,” he said.
The spokesperson said cases with FIR Numbers 277/2023 under section 8/15 of the NDPS Act and FIR No. 278/2023 under sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act have been registered in Police Station Qazigund, and investigations are underway for both cases.
