Cold wave intensifies across Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 21: Following the dip in temperatures, Kashmir is shivering as the cold wave has intensified. The weathermen have predicted more drop in night temperatures as dry weather will continue till November 30, Officials said.
Director Meteorological Department Center, Srinagar Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that several places in Kashmir and Ladakh are witnessing subzero temperatures for the past several days.
He said the weather will remain mostly dry till November end. For the next week, mainly dry weather  and there’s no forecast of any significant weather change till ending Nov,”  Lotus said.
As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded 15.7 °C as the maximum and 3.7 °C     as the minimum temperature.  Ski-resort Gulmarg recorded 5.8 °C  maximum temperature and minus 3.4°C as minimum temperature. 
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 11.3 °C and a minimum of 3.5 °C degrees. In south Kashmir Qazigund, recorded 3.0°C as minimum temperatures.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 15.4 °C, while minimum temperatures settled at minus 0.3 °C
In UT Ladakh Leh recorded a low of minus 9.2°C while Kargil recorded minus 4.0°C. However, Drass in Kargil, the second coldest place in the world remained coldest in country with minus 10.0°C.
As per the traffic advisory, two-way traffic to ply on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Thursday.
“On Tuesday subject to fair weather better road condition, LMVs(Passenger) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic,” it said.
Similarly on Mughal road, LMVs from both sides and  HMVs (upto twelve tyres) from Srinagar towards Poonch shall be allowed on Mughal road. LMVs from Behramgalla 0800 hrs upto 1500 hrs.,  from Herpora 0800 hrs upto 1600 hrs & HMVs from Herpora 0900 hrs. upto 1500 hrs, the advisory said.
On the Srinagar-Leh highway, vehicular movement shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil ” the official said.
