Cold wave grips Kashmir, Gulmarg freezes at minus 3.6°C

Srinagar, Nov 16:  Cold wave continues to grip Kashmir valley while minimum temperatures witnessed a further decrease at several places .
According to the meteorological department the ski resort of Gulmarg on Wednesday recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.6°C while as the minimum temperature in Pahalgam settled at minus 2.4 °C. The meteorological department has forecasted a two-day wet spell between 19 and 20th November.
Deputy Director MeT, Srinagar Centre, Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that weather will remain mostly dry to partly cloudy from Thursday to Saturday and thereafter they were expecting another spell of snowfall and rain in the region.
“From 19th (late afternoon) to 20th (morning), weather will remain mostly cloudy with light rain, and snow over many places of Kashmir division, especially over higher reaches and plains of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal and parts of Srinagar and Badgam districts,” he said.
Mukhar revealed that there was a possibility of dry and clear weather in Kashmir valley from 21st to 23rd November. He said that in Jammu region  weather was likely to remain dry during the next  week
 
MeT data revealed that the summer capital of Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 13.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum  of 2.4 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 12.7°C respectively and a minimum of 4.7° C Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 13.9°C, while minimum temperatures settled at 0.8 °C.
The dense fog continued to engulf many parts including Srinagar city giving a tough time to the  vehicles moving during early morning and evening hours.
As per the traffic advisory issued by traffic police headquarters for Thursday, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs (passengers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on  Jammu-Srinagar highway.
 
Similarly on Mughal road, vehicular movement will be allowed from both sides of the highway. LMVs will be released from Buffliaz Pooch towards Srinagar at 0900 hours upto 1600 hrs. From Shopian to Poonch at 11 am to 4pm onward, which will be followed by plying of HMV’s and no vehicle will be allowed after cut off timings.
The officials revealed that on the Srinagar-Leh highway, only one-way traffic from Srinagar towards Kargil will be allowed. These vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg at 10 am and it will be followed by HMVs on the highway.
