Budgam, Apr 18: Thousands attended the funeral prayer of Agha Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Moosavi in the main town of Budgam on Friday.
Agha was a distinguished Shia cleric and scholar who passed away early Friday morning at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
People from different walks of life including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah were in attendance to pay their respects.
Speaking to the reporters in Budgam, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have lost a significant religious scholar. He noted the large turnout at the funeral as a testament to the esteem in which Allama Aga Baqir was held within the community.
“Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Moosavi Al-Najfi had been suffering from illness for many years, and his passing today is a profound loss for Jammu and Kashmir,” Abdullah stated.
The Chief Minister said that “I pray to Allah Almighty to grant Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Moosavi Al-Najfi the highest place in Jannah.”
Born on 21st March 1940, Allama Aga Baqir (RA) began his early education at Babul Ilm in Budgam before moving to the esteemed seminary of Najaf Ashraf, where he studied at the prestigious Howza Ilmia. Since 1982, he upheld the spiritual and scholarly traditions of the distinguished Aga family, following in the footsteps of great luminaries like Aga Syed Yusuf Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi.
Fluent in Arabic, Persian, and Kashmiri, he was a scholar, thinker, poet, and preacher whose works and discourses touched hearts across communities. He authored numerous books and was conferred the Shaheed Murtaza Mutahhari Award in recognition of his scholarly contributions.
