CM reviews preparations for tunnel inauguration

Ganderbal, Jan 11: Ahead of the formal inauguration of the Z- Morh Tunnel by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, visited Sonamarg on Saturday to oversee the preparations for the much-awaited inauguration ceremony of the Z Morh Tunnel. The event, scheduled for January, marks a major milestone in improving connectivity in the region.
Chief Minister was accompanied by MLA Kangan Mian Mehr Ali, his advisor Nasir Sogami, and Divisional Commissioner (Div Com),
The Divisional Commissioner provided a detailed briefing to Omar regarding the arrangements made for the high-profile ceremony. The visit was part of the final preparations ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Strict security measures have been implemented across the area, with thorough frisking of people and vehicles being conducted at multiple checkpoints to ensure safety.
Omar Abdullah also Wrote on “X” Visited Sonmarg to review preparations for PM @narendramodi ji’s visit on Monday. The inauguration of the Z-morh tunnel will open Sonmarg to tourism all year round, Sonmarg will now be developed as a great ski resort. The local population will not have to leave in winter & the travel time to Kargil/Leh from Srinagar will also reduce.
Sources said that the J&K Chief Secretary and Director General of Police also visited Sonamarg to finalize arrangements for the Prime Minister’s participation in the ceremony.
The event is expected to witness the presence of several dignitaries, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State Ajay Tamta, Minister of State Harish Malhotra, Srinagar MP Syed Agha Ruhullah, and Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Ali Khatana.
Pertinent to mention here, the Z-Morh Tunnel, a significant infrastructure project, has been constructed at a cost of ₹2,717 crore. Designed to offer modern amenities for travelers, the tunnel promises to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey through the region. Notably, sources confirmed that no toll tax will be levied for using the tunnel.
