As part of the 78th Independence Day celebrations, Swachhta Pakhwara, and the Viksit Bharat initiative, Cluster University Srinagar organized an insightful lecture on alternatives to non-biodegradable plastics.
The event took place in the academic block and was attended by 8th-semester IG students.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Willayat Hussain Rizvi, Registrar of Cluster University Srinagar, who was welcomed by the Programme Coordinator NSS. Dr. Rizvi elaborated on the detrimental effects of non-biodegradable plastics and their impact on global environmental changes.
He underscored the necessity of integrating environmentally safe materials, such as jute bags, paper bags, biofuels, and plant-based products, into daily life.
Highlighting a concerning statistic, Dr. Rizvi noted that nearly twenty thousand trucks of non-biodegradable plastic are disposed of in the ocean daily, posing a severe threat to marine biodiversity.
The session concluded with Dr. Rizvi addressing numerous questions from the students, followed by a vote of thanks from the Programme Coordinator NSS.
