National Conference (JKNC) Vice President Omar Abdullah said that there was a “cloud of war” visible in the Middle East following the death of the Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday about People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti cancelling her campaign in “solidarity with the those killed in Lebanon and Gaza, especially Hassan Nasarullah”, Abdullah said that he has nothing to say about Mufti’s decision and that they had opposed the bombing done by Israel since last year.

He further called for the end of the killings and injuries of “innocent people” in Gaza and Lebanon and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other world leaders should also pressure Israel to establish peace in the region.

“I will not say anything about it today. We have always opposed the bombing and use of force by Israel for the past year and have repeatedly demanded that it should not be stopped. The series of killings and injuring innocent people should be stopped, whether it is in Gaza, Lebanon or anywhere else. After what happened yesterday, it seems as if the clouds of war are now visible in the entire region. GoI, PM Modi, the leaders of other countries should put pressure on Israel to establish peace there again,” Abdullah said.

Earlier on Saturday, PDP chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had decided to cancel her election campaign for Sunday stating that she stands with “the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of immense grief” following the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

“Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon and Gaza, especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine and Lebanon in this hour of immense grief and exemplary resistance,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a post on X.

Earlier on Saturday, Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed the killing of Hassan Nasrallah in the airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military in Beirut. In a statement, IDF said, “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world.”

A protest march was also held in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam region today against the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah by the Israel Defence Force (IDF). (ANI)
