Srinagar: Reacting to question of extending the summer break to schools as heatwave grips Kashmir, Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Alok Kumar on Saturday said that “closing schools is not a solution”.
Speaking to the reporters, he said, “If we continue to extend summer vacation until the weather heatwave gets reduced into Jammu and Kashmir, we will not be able to complete the syllabus of the students as per the academic session”.
He said if any student is not doing well because of the weather, “we won’t be strict with them for their weak attendance. We have proper facilities available for the students in schools, which include proper drinking water and shades,” the Principal Secretary said.
Alok further said that as of now, it was not possible for the school education department to install air conditioners.
