Srinagar, Sep 18: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has apprehended Irfan Malik, a Srinagar resident, on charges of disseminating hateful and abusive content directed at the late Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of J&K Police, Humayun Muzammil, who lost his life in the Kokernag Encounter.

According to a police spokesperson, an Instagram user was identified as posting derogatory and abusive remarks about the martyred Dy. SP of J&K Police, Humayun Muzammil, who, along with other army officers, made the ultimate sacrifice while confronting terrorists in an encounter in Kokernag, Anantnag on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

“Upon preliminary scrutiny of his social media profiles, it was discovered that the user was also sharing content glorifying terrorism, issuing threats against security forces, and engaging in name-calling, among other things. The user has been identified as Irfan Malik (43), son of Abdul Rashid Malik, a resident of Chotta Bazar, Srinagar. Malik was employed as an operator at JustDial,” the spokesperson stated.

He further mentioned that the social media user has been charged and detained in accordance with applicable legal provisions under FIR No. 07/2023 at Police Station CID CIK. The FIR is currently being investigated for various offenses, including the misuse of social media, threats against security personnel, and the promotion of terrorism.

Sources have revealed that CIK is closely monitoring several similar users, and further arrests are anticipated as more such individuals are identified, he added.
