Srinagar, Dec 14:The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out a series of raids on Saturday in District Jail Kehribal Mattan, Anantnag, and two villages in Kulgam district, as part of an ongoing investigation into a terror-related case.
Sources informed that CIK teams began their operation by searching various blocks and barracks within the District Jail in Mattan after technical evidence, identified during the investigation, pointed to suspicious activities within the jail premises. The raids are believed to be linked to gathering further intelligence on the case, he said.
“CIK teams also conducted raids in Sonigam and Chawalgam areas in Kulgam district, where similar searches were conducted based on search warrants approved by a competent court,” he said.
The raids come just a day after the Kulgam Police attached a property under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The property, located in the Frisal area, belongs to Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat.
It was seized after the police registered case FIR No. 53/2024 at Police Station Yaripora. The operation was conducted under the supervision of a police team, with an Executive Magistrate present.
Earlier, CIK and State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir conducted raids at Central Jail Srinagar and seized multiple devices in connection with a terror linked case.
“The raids were planned and conducted on the basis of a search warrant obtained from the competent court. As of now, five to six digital devices including cellphones، sim cards and tablets have been recovered, officials said.
He further said the inmates were in continuous touch with the members of terrorist organisation(s) across the border thereby receiving directions and passing on to the terrorists active in Kashmir valley.
Earlier, on October 22, the CIK carried out searches at 10 locations across Kashmir and detained seven suspects. In addition to that, CIK has recovered 14 mobile phones, one laptop, and incriminating material.
