Chandigarh, Oct 27: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Union government’s “unwavering commitment” to farmers.
In a statement, he said the government has assured the purchase of grains from farmers and is working to create necessary storage facilities to address the challenges currently faced in Punjab.
Chugh said the Union government gives priority to Punjab for grain evacuation, referring to the directive issued to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to take immediate action if storage space is insufficient.
The BJP leader said the increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy over the past decade is evidence of the Modi government’s dedication to improving farmers’ livelihoods.
“In 2013-2014, the MSP for A-grade paddy was Rs 1,345, while for common grade, it was Rs 1,310. Today, the MSP has risen to Rs 2,300, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring fair prices for farmers,” he said
He praised Prime Minister Modi and his government for their ongoing efforts to support the farmers of Punjab, stating, “The government’s proactive measures and unwavering support in safeguarding the interests of our farmers and ensuring their financial well-being underscore our commitment to resolving farmers’ issues and promoting their welfare.”
Chugh also urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to engage with the relevant authorities and intensify procurement efforts. He reiterated that the Modi government stands firmly with the farmers of Punjab and assured that all efforts will be made to fulfill commitments toward resolving the situation.
