Ganderbal, Aug 11: Eleven years have passed; the work on the 100-bedded Mother and Childcare Hospital (MCH) in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is yet to be completed.
An official said the government approved the hospital in 2012 to improve the maternity and childcare facilities in the sub-division Kangan. The estimated cost of the hospital is Rs 27 crores, he added
The locals said that with the completion of the hospital, they would not have to move to other towns and city hospitals.
“For the last 11 years, this hospital is in construction mode. The building is completed but is yet to be handed over to the health department,” they said.
They said the completion of this hospital will not only lessen the burden of Lal Ded Hospital but will also provide relief to the patients from Kangan and adjacent areas of the district.
DGM J&K Housing Board Parvaiz Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that most of the work on the hospital is completed and only the power supply is remaining.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ganderbal didn’t respond to repeated phone calls by this reporter.
Meanwhile, the locals have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter.
