Srinagar, Aug 14: The ‘Chhari Mubarak’, sacred mace of Lord Shiva, began its journey to the Amarnath cave shrine today as the 2024 Amarnath Yatra nears its conclusion.
The holy mace left early in the morning from the Dashnami Akhara Temple in Srinagar, under tight security and accompanied by devotional chants.
Custodian of ‘Chhari Mubarak’, Mahant Deependra Giri while leading the procession while speaking reporters here at Lalchowk that the mace would reach Pahalgam in south Kashmir by evening and stay there for the night.
He said that over the next few days, the ‘Chhari Mubarak’ will continue its journey to Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni, with overnight stops at each location for pooja rituals.
He said that the procession will arrive at the Amarnath cave shrine on August 19, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. He further said that August 14 marks the shravan shukal Paksh dashami.
“We have begun our journey from Shri Dashnami Akhara Srinagar for the final rituals at the holy Amarnath cave,” Mahant Giri said adding that this marks the conclusion of the 2024 Amarnath Yatra.
The annual 52-day Amarnath Yatra started on June 29 via the Baltal and Pahalgam routes with a record number of over 500,000 devotees visited the holy cave shrine in the Kashmir Himalayas this year so far.
