Srinagar, July 24: DPAP General Secretary for Kashmir Province, Er Nazir Ahmed Yatoo, has called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to address the critical issues affecting the Charar-e-Sharif mosque.

The mosque, constructed adjacent to the shrine at a cost of Rs 34 crore, has been closed to devotees due to serious technical snags.

Yatoo criticized the executing agency, JKPCC, for their inefficiency, which has led to the mosque’s closure.

A task force convened by the Waqf Board had previously advised against conducting full occupancy prayers in the mosque to prevent potential tragedies.

A joint team of experts from NIT Srinagar and JKPCC inspected the mosque on June 12, 2021.

They conducted a thorough review and non-destructive testing, ultimately recommending that the mosque remain closed to mass gatherings until repairs are made.

Following this, the Deputy Commissioner Budgam instructed shrine caretakers to avoid gatherings based on the NIT team’s cautionary report.

Residents and devotees are eagerly awaiting repairs so they can resume prayers at the Khankah.

Yatoo has urged the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and ensure the matter is resolved promptly, stressing the importance of holding the responsible agency accountable to prevent similar issues in the future.
