BUDGAM: After two and a half months, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday submitted a challan in the rape and murder case of a woman in the Soibugh area of Budgam district.

The deceased woman from Check Soibugh village went to attend computer classes at Soibugh but didn’t return home.
After that missing report was lodged in the police post at Soibugh on March 8, 2023, and investigation was started by the police.

However, on March 12, 2023, the Budgam Police cracked a murder case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of the crime.

A police official said that the deceased lady was reported missing on March 8, 2023, and a missing report was lodged at the police post in Soibugh. It was later discovered during the search that she had been murdered and her body dismembered.

“During the investigation, police arrested Shabir Ahmad Wani of Mohanpora Budgam for his involvement in the crime, and a case FIR No. 53/23 U/S 302 IPC was lodged in Police Station Budgam. It was further revealed that the victim had been raped before being murdered and dismembered. This led to the addition of the rape charge under Section 376 of the IPC,” an official said.

He said that the accused, Shabir Ahmad Wani, is currently in judicial custody. The charge sheet containing charges under Sections 302, 376, and 201 of the IPC was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam on May 25, 2023.
