Chadoora, Dec 19: Prominent Politician Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Monday expressed concerns over huge potable water shortage across Chadoora Constituency and urged the concerned Jal Shakti authorities to take necessary measures to relieve the general public.
In a statement issued to the media, Zaffer said that people of Pahroo village particularly Shah Mohalla which is only 8 kms away from the National Highway are facing a huge dearth in essential water supply.
“It appears that people of Chadoora are living in the medieval era where even living in close proximity to the National Highway is of no value. This is not a model of development which people had yearned for. Is this how a welfare government should treat its citizens where their families are being deprived of requisite water supply?” he questioned.
Mir informed that local inhabitants of SK Bagh Halqa, Kultreh and Behrampora are also undergoing immense inconvenience because of this colossal water scarcity.
“I along with a local public delegation visited the office of Chief Engineer Jal Shakti but he was on a ground tour to Ganderbal and later on we met with the Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Chadoora who showed zero interest in resolving this pressing public issue. There was lack of patience on her behalf to understand the woes of people whose families continue to suffer in wake of this water shortage,” he said.
Zaffer through his microblogging Twitter account called on Jal Shakti Department especially the Principal Secretary Jal Shakti J&K Shaleen Kabra to intervene and address this public problem at the earliest.
“I urge the Jal Shakti authorities to kindly act on humanitarian grounds so that people of Chadoora are relieved from this agony wherein they carry water on their backs in this chilly winter. Few areas like Behrampora have dug a water bore at their own cost but its high iron quantity can adversely affect their health. Besides, Chadoora gets a non filtered water supply that may give rise to any water borne disease epidemic,” he said.
Mir said that he has strongly put his hopes in the department of Jal Shakti to initiate remedial measures for mitigating the public sufferings in Chadoora Constituency with regards to deplorable water supply.
