Jammu, Dec 31: Cervical cancer is a deadly disease that kills one woman every two minutes globally and to defeat the fatal disease, women must take shots of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine.
This was stated by Dr Davinder Kour, Convenor of the Sparsh Committee during an awareness program on Cervical Cancer and HPV Vaccination head at Government College of Education (GCOE) Jammu on Tuesday. The program was held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar.
The programme commenced with a brief introduction to the topic by Prof. Deepali Devi. Dr. Davinder Kour, Convenor of the Sparsh Committee educated the students about the hazards of Cervical Cancer and the importance of HPV Vaccination for women.
She explained that HPV is a Human Pappilloma Virus which causes Cervical Cancer. Every two minutes, one woman dies because of Cervical Cancer globally. “In India also, the mortality rate of cervical cancer is 22 women per 100,000,” she said. She motivated the students for the HPV vaccination. Five students agreed to undergo HPV Vaccination. Pamphlets were also distributed among the participants.
Among others present were Prof. Satish Sharma, Prof. Prof. Anuradha Choudary, Dr. Sushma Bala, Dr. Shalini Rana Coordinator IQAC, was also present at the event. Prof. Kiran Thapa proposed a vote of Thanks. Other Committee Members who were present were Dr. Rakesh Bharti, Prof. Sarita Dogra, Prof. Roopa Kumari, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Dr. Ambica, Dr Sonam Gandotra and Students committee members Jaspreet Kour and Bhagya Laxmi. This awareness program demonstrates the college’s commitment to promoting health education and wellness among its students.
