Can see enthusiasm among voters,” says District Election Officer Reasi

As polling for the second phase of assembly elections are underway in Jammu and Kashmir, District Election Officer Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan on Wednesday said that they witnessed the enthusiasm among voters and hoped for its continuation till 6 pm.

According to the data of the Election Commission of India, Reasi recorded highest voter turnout of 33.39 percent.

He further said that the senior officers are present in the control room and all polling stations are being monitored. He also said that all kinds of facilities have been provided to the voters.

Speaking to ANI, Vishesh Mahajan said, “There are 436 polling stations (in Reasi) and polling has begun on all of them. We can see the enthusiasm among voters…We hope that this continues till 6 pm. All facilities have been provided, water has been arranged and we have also given directions for arrangement of chairs as well as tents…Senior officers are here in the control room, all polling stations are being monitored…If any issue is coming up, the team is helping from here in resolving the same.”

The district of Reasi comprises of three Assembly constituencies, namely, Gulabgarh (ST), Reasi and Mata Vaishno Devi.

A 102-year-old voter, Hagi Karam Din Bhat came at the polling station in Reasi instead of choosing voting from home.

He said, “If a good government is formed a lot of work will be done…The youth should get a good education, businesses should be set up…Everyone should come and cast their votes and appeal to all the voters to come and vote…”

Long queues of voters were witnessed at a polling station in Reasi constituency, as polling gets underway. BJP has fielded Kuldeep Raj Dubey who faces a contest from Congress’ Mumtaz Khan from Reasi.

A voter turnout of 24.10 percent was recorded till 11 am in the second phase of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir held on Wednesday.

Voting for the second phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began at 7 am on Wednesday. Over 25 lakh eligible voters will seal the fate of 239 candidates across 26 constituencies in six districts of the Union Territory. In this phase, 25,78,099 lakh voters are eligible to cast their ballot, comprising 13,12,730 lakh male voters, 12,65,316 lakh female voters and 53 third-gender voters.

The last phase of polls will be held on October 1 and counting of votes will be held on October 8. (ANI)
