California-based Kashmiri doc honoured with prestigious award for volunteerism

Dr.ShaguftaYasmeen, a distinguished physician originally hailing from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, has been recognized with the esteemed Oscar E. Edwards Memorial Award for Volunteerism and Community Service by the American College of Physicians (ACP).
The award ceremony, part of ACP’s annual Convocation event, took place on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, coinciding with the ongoing Internal Medicine Meeting 2024 conference until April 20.
Dr.Yasmeen’s journey in medicine spans decades of dedicated service and achievement. After completing her MBBS Degree from Govt Medical College Srinagar in 1984, she pursued specialization in obstetrics and gynecology in London at St. Bartholomew’s and Whipps Cross teaching hospitals. Upon relocating to the United States, she underwent training in internal medicine at UC Davis, where she held joint appointments in the Division of General Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr.Yasmeen has excelled as a faculty member, contributing significantly to the field through her expertise and research. She has authored over 35 papers and received numerous accolades, including the Leadership Excellence Award (UCD Health, 2000), Excellence in Teaching Award (Association of Professors of Gynecology& Obstetrics, 2003), Alpha Omega Alpha Award (UCD School of Medicine, 2006), and AMA Leadership Award (American Medical Association, 2009).
As a revered member of ACP, Dr.Yasmeen’s contributions have been consistently recognized. Notable honors include the National Award for Diversity and Access to Care (ACP, 2011), the Internal Medicine Outstanding Volunteer Faculty Award (2019), and the Kaiser Teaching Award (2021). Beyond her exceptional work in the United States, Dr.Yasmeen has generously volunteered her expertise in countries such as Cambodia, Jamaica, Tanzania, and various other global locations, underscoring her unwavering dedication to advancing healthcare worldwide.
