Srinagar, Apr 07: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative and Election Departments, Javid Ahmad Dar on Monday informed the Assembly that over 1.35 lakh houses have been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme across Jammu and Kashmir during the past two years.
The statement came in response to a question raised by National Conference senior leader and MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju, who sought panchayat-wise details of houses built under the scheme and clarification on the eligibility criteria for beneficiaries.
Responding to the question, Dar informed that a total of 1,35,925 houses have been completed in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions over the past two years. “Of these, 1,09,412 were built in Jammu division and 26,513 in Kashmir division,” he said.
Giving further details, the minister said, “In Kashmir division, Kupwara district recorded the highest number with 6,002 houses, followed by Anantnag with 5,667 and Baramulla with 3,582.” He added that “2,518 houses were constructed in Kulgam, 2,431 in Bandipora, 1,754 in Shopian, 1,644 in Ganderbal, 1,522 in Budgam, 1,370 in Pulwama, and only 23 in Srinagar.”
In Jammu division, Dar said, 63,534 houses were completed during the financial year 2023–24 and 45,878 during 2024–25.
Regarding the eligibility criteria for PMAY, the minister said that while bifurcation of ration cards has not taken place since 2011, other documents are accepted for verification of beneficiaries. These include MGNREGA job card number, Aadhaar, mobile number, and bank account details.
Dar also clarified that Chulla Parchi reports prepared by Chowkidars are not considered valid for MGNREGA job cards. For obtaining a job card under MGNREGA, applicants must submit proof of residence, identity proof of adult family members, and optional passport-size photographs, he said.
