BUDGAM, Mar 12: Police in Budgam have cracked a murder case by arresting an accused person involved in the commission of crime.
Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday revealed that they have arrested a man for allegedly murdering a woman who was missing for the last four days from her home in Soibugh area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of the Budgam Police, Tahir Geelani, told reporters that on March 7 a 30-year-old woman, namely Arifa Bano, from the Check Soibugh village, was going to attend computer classes at Soibugh, and did not return home.
He said that during the course of investigation, police rounded up several suspects, including Shabir Ahmad Wani, Son of Abdul Aziz Wani, a resident of MohandporaOmpora Budgam. After sustained questioning, the accused, Shabir Ahmad, confessed to his involvement in the commission of the crime.
“The accused person revealed that he had chopped off her body into several pieces and buried the parts at different locations to hide his crime. On his disclosure, the body parts have been recovered, and the weapon used in the murder has also been seized by the police,” SSP Budgam said.
Geelani said that the FIR has been registered and post- mortem of the body has been conducted. “The medical and legal formalities are underway, and further investigation is going on,”Geelani said.
Adding, “On March 8, Police Post Soibugh received a missing complaint from brother of the deceased woman , Tanveer Ahmad Khan, stating that his sister left for coaching classes onMarch 7 but didn’t return home. In this regard, a missing report was registered and the investigation was initiated.
“My sister got engaged in September last year. We were preparing for her marriage to be held after the month of Ramadan, not in our worst dreams we thought that she would be murdered in such a gruesome way. Ruheena, sister of the deceased, said.
“There were three sisters and one brother in our family. Our sister was an educated girl, she had completed her P.G. in psychology from the University of Kashmir, and she was doing the sozni work (needle work) besides pursuing her education to earn for her family.” She said,
The family demanded strict action against the accused.
” When her body was brought home, we could not see it as it had been cut into small pieces. The government should hang the murderer. We demand stern punishment to the murderers so that no one can dare to repeat such a beastly act in future. Today it happened to us. Tomorrow, it may happen to some other innocent women,” family members said
