Budgam, Oct 07: The People from Budgam have welcomed the decision of the Election Commission of India for announcing election date for the Budgam constituency. Pertinent to mention, this seat has been unoccupied since Chief Minister Omar Abdullah resigned from it during the previous elections.

Javed Ahmad Mir, a voter from the Budgam constituency told Rising Kashmir that the absence of an elected representative has resulted in significant challenges for the people, as there is no person available to address the fundamental issues faced by the general public in Budgam constituency.

"With the Election Commission of India announcing the dates for the Budgam assembly seat, the people welcomed this decision to conduct elections for both the Budgam and Nagrota seats," he said.

Mir said that the residents have already invested considerable time in the last assembly elections, having cast their votes during the Assembly elections of 2024, following Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's resignation from the Budgam district.

Sumaiya Gulzar, another voter, said that the people of Budgam district are encountering numerous difficulties due to the lack of a public representative who can voice their concerns in the assembly.

"The government has already allocated MLA funds for all constituencies except for the Budgam seat, as there is no one to receive these funds, which are essential for facilitating various development projects in the Budgam constituency," she explained.

Sumaiya said that the voters of Budgam district are eager to elect their representative now that the election commission has set the election dates for the Budgam assembly seat which has remained vacant since the last one year.

"The electorate must select a representative who will consistently be accessible to their constituents. The electoral process is a fundamental democratic right of the people, allowing voters to choose their representative based on personal preference, who can undertake development initiatives in the Budgam constituency and address the issues faced by their people," she said.

The 27- Budgam Assembly Constituency consists of 173 polling stations distributed across 111 polling locations, serving approximately 125,000 voters.
