Srinagar, Feb 15: The Border Security Forces (BSF) have heightened security measures along the International Border (IB) in the aftermath of unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers in the RS Pura sector of Jammu division, officials disclosed.
A spokesperson for BSF revealed that Pakistan Rangers initiated unprovoked firing in the Ranbir Singh Pora area of Jammu on February 14, at around 5:50 pm.
In response, BSF units promptly delivered a fitting reply to the aggression.
The exchange of fire ceased approximately 25 minutes later, at around 6:15 pm, but BSF troops remain on heightened alert, prepared to counter any further provocations.
An additional BSF official at the Jammu Frontier informed Rising Kashmir that in the wake of the ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces, a comprehensive all-round domination strategy has been implemented, with troops fully equipped and prepared to address any emergent situations.
“On Thursday, there were no reported incidents along the IB in Jammu division. However, we maintain vigilance along the borders, upholding the highest standards of professionalism to effectively safeguard the territorial integrity,” he affirmed.
Regarding the persistent threat of tunnels and drones, the BSF official noted a decline in drone activities along the border. While drones have historically been employed for smuggling weapons and narcotics, the BSF has made significant strides in combating this menace over the past three to four years, resulting in a notable decrease in such incidents.
Last year, on the intervening night of November 8-9, a BSF jawan was killed in Pakistan Rangers firing in Ramgarh sector of Samba district — the first death on this side since February 25, 2021, when a renewed ceasefire was agreed upon by the two countries. Earlier on October 26, two BSF personnel and a woman were injured in cross-border firing in Arnia sector of Jammu, while another BSF jawan was injured in a similar incident on October 17.
The incident comes days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu on February 20 when he is likely to inaugurate and lay foundation of development projects worth crores.
