Srinagar, Sept 25: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday apprehended a Pakistani intruder along the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura sector of Jammu, marking the second such arrest from the area this month. Officials said the individual was intercepted after alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the border fence and swiftly overpowered him upon entering Indian territory. “No incriminating material was recovered from the intruder. He has been handed over to joint teams of security agencies for detailed questioning,” an official said, adding that his identity and motive for crossing into Indian territory are under verification. A senior BSF officer posted in the Jammu frontier told Rising Kashmir that the arrest reflects the heightened alertness of troops along the border. “Our men remain vigilant round the clock. The individual was detected the moment he tried to sneak in, and he was overpowered before he could move further inside. Such attempts highlight the persistent challenges we face along the border,” the officer said. He added that while initial questioning has not yielded evidence of weapons or contraband, the intruder’s background will be thoroughly checked. “Even if an individual is unarmed, we treat each case with seriousness. Sometimes people cross by mistake, but infiltration attempts are also a reality. Our mandate is to ensure no breach goes undetected,” the officer said. “From ground patrols to electronic surveillance, multiple measures are in place. Every intrusion attempt is taken as a potential threat until proven otherwise. The quick apprehensions this month underscore both the risks and the effectiveness of our systems,” he said. A BSF spokesperson said the situation along the border remains under close watch. “The message is clear: no illegal entry will be tolerated. The border is secure, and our troops are fully prepared to deal with any eventuality,” he said. Earlier, on September 8, the BSF arrested another Pakistani national in the Octroi area of the same sector. That individual, identified as Siraj Khan from Sargodha in Pakistan’s Punjab province, was apprehended after troops fired a few rounds when he ignored warnings and tried to approach the border fence. Pakistani currency notes were recovered from his possession. The arrests have come amid tightened security arrangements along the 192-kilometre-long International Border in Jammu, which has witnessed repeated infiltration attempts, smuggling bids, and occasional ceasefire violations in recent years. Officials said a joint interrogation by the BSF, police, and intelligence agencies is crucial to rule out any terror link or reconnaissance mission.
