Leh, Oct 03: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has set yet another world record by constructing a road through Mig La Pass in eastern Ladakh, now recognised as the world’s highest motorable pass at an altitude of 19,400 feet. The landmark was achieved on October 1, when Project Himank of the BRO, led by Brig Vishal Srivastava, Chief Engineer, reached the pass and unfurled the National Flag along with the BRO flag at the newly constructed alignment of Likaru–Mig La–Fukche road. The feat surpasses BRO’s earlier Guinness World Record at Umling La (19,024 ft). Officials said the new connectivity provides the third crucial axis from Hanle sector to the border village of Fukche, enhancing both strategic preparedness and infrastructure development in the region. BRO, which has already built 11 of the world’s 14 highest motorable passes, has once again demonstrated its engineering prowess in some of the most formidable terrains on earth. Apart from its defence significance, the route is expected to open up new avenues for adventure tourism in Ladakh. Offering sweeping views of the Indus Valley, Mig La is likely to become a magnet for thrill-seekers and travellers aiming to experience the highest drivable point on the planet. The achievement has been hailed as a milestone in India’s infrastructure history, showcasing the resilience and dedication of BRO personnel working in extreme altitudes and harsh climatic conditions.
