Ganderbal, Jan 07: Following a significant improvement in weather conditions, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has initiated snow clearance operations on the Zojila Pass from the Sonamarg side, official confirmed on Tuesday.
The strategic Zojila Pass, connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Union Territory of Ladakh, was closed after heavy snowfall blanketed areas like Pani Matha, Shaitani Nallah, Ranga Morh, Captain Morh, and India Gate. The road closure disrupted vehicular movement, but the BRO has now deployed dozens of workers and heavy machinery to clear the accumulated snow.
“Despite freezing temperatures in January, the Zojila Pass remains a crucial lifeline for connectivity. With the improvement in weather, efforts are being made to reopen the route for vehicular traffic,” an official said.
The BRO teams are working tirelessly to ensure that the pass is cleared of snow as soon as possible. Sources stated that once the snow clearance operations are complete, the road will be reopened for vehicles, restoring connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh.
