Ganderbal, Apr 22: As the annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath Cave approaches, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have initiated extensive preparations to facilitate a safe and smooth journey for pilgrims. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has been tasked with the crucial responsibility of clearing snow from the Baltal side leading up to the Amarnath Cave, ahead of the Yatra’s commencement on June 29th.
Traditionally, the 14 km narrow and treacherous route from Baltal in Ganderbal district to the Amarnath Cave has presented formidable challenges, especially dictated by weather conditions. However, the deployment of modern technology and machinery by the BRO, coupled with the dedication of its workforce, has expedited snow clearance efforts along the route. Notably, within just one month, snow has been removed from the Amarnath trek till Kali Mata.
Workers on the ground are diligently focusing on widening the yatra track to ensure the safety and convenience of both pilgrims and personnel involved in the Yatra. The objective is to create a 12 to 14 feet wide track, allowing smoother passage for visitors and facilitating emergency services. This initiative is driven by the tragic loss of lives resulting from a cloudburst near the cave two years ago, underscoring the urgent need to enhance safety measures.
The BRO’s efforts go beyond mere maintenance; they aim to sufficiently widen the pilgrimage track to accommodate ambulances and machinery, thus preempting potential challenges for visitors. With safety as their paramount concern, the BRO’s endeavors mark a significant step forward in the management of the AmarnathYatra, promising a safer and more accessible journey for pilgrims.
