JAMMU, Jan 28 In a significant triumph for both vehicular movement and strategic importance, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully completed the construction of the 700-meter-long Naushera tunnel on the Akhnoor-Poonch National Highway (NH-144A).
“The BRO has achieved a major breakthrough in the ‘Golden Arc Road’ by building the 700-meter-long Naushera tunnel on Akhnoor-Poonch National Highway (NH-144A),” stated Suneel Bartwal, the Jammu-based Defence PRO, emphasizing the tunnel’s critical role in connecting Akhnoor and Poonch from a strategic standpoint.
The ‘Golden Arc Road’ spans 200 kilometers, serving as a crucial link connecting South Kashmir-Jammu region to the west of Jammu, making the Naushera tunnel of utmost strategic importance. A breakthrough ceremony for the Naushera Tunnel was held on Sunday to mark this milestone.
“The construction of this pivotal infrastructure project on National Highway-144A, connecting Akhnoor to Poonch, reached a significant milestone with the breakthrough,” announced the BRO spokesman. The ‘Golden Arc Road’ connects vital border districts of Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch.
Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, DG Border Roads, highlighted that the completion of the Naushera tunnel is part of the BRO’s efforts to provide connectivity across the areas of Rajouri and Poonch. Last year, on November 25, the breakthrough of the Kandi tunnel was achieved, indicating the swift progress of the National Highway project.
The BRO is optimistic about completing the project before the specified time, aiming for a 2026 deadline. Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan emphasized the BRO’s commitment to strengthening defense infrastructure by building and upgrading strategic roads along the International Border, Line of Control, and Line of Actual Control. He reiterated the organization’s dedication to creating, connecting, caring, and saving lives of the citizens through initiatives like Project Sampark.
