Srinagar, May 26: Two brave residents of Gasi Mohalla Safakadal emerged as heroes after they saved a minor boy who was drowning in the area.
According to local residents, a minor boy was struggling in the River Jhelum in the locality when the duo, who were nearby, jumped into the fast-flowing river without regard for their own lives and saved the boy.
The duo, identified as Zahoor Ahmad and Showkat Ahmad, both residents of Gasi Mohalla Safakadal, not only saved the boy but also administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and later moved him to a hospital for treatment.
On Sunday afternoon, they saw a minor floating and struggling in the river and, without wasting any time, jumped into the Jhelum to rescue him.
“At first, we thought he was dead, but after performing CPR for a few minutes, we found him alive. Without wasting time, we moved him to a nearby hospital for treatment where doctors were able to recover him,” said one of the rescuers.
The duo mentioned that it initially appeared the boy was trying to beat the heat in the Jhelum when the fast water flow swept him away. “He was lucky that we were there,” they added.
They also appealed to the public not to allow their minor children to go near water bodies, as it can be very dangerous.
Meanwhile, as soon as pictures of Zahoor Ahmad and Showkat Ahmad surfaced on social media, users hailed them as real heroes, Mudasir wani a social user wrote “All Praises To Be Allah Besides applauds and token of thanks , they should be awarded by the administration. They have not only saved the minor boy but the whole family from tragedy.”
