Baramulla, Dec 09: Umar Khan, an agripreneur hailing from north Kashmir’s Baramulla, has been honoured with the prestigious “MFOI Millionaire Farmer of India Award” at PUSA IARI, New Delhi.
Umar expressed gratitude for the recognition, attributing the achievement to his dedication, hard work, and innovation in agriculture.
The event witnessed around 2000 participants from each state of India, with representation from Jammu and Kashmir, including young entrepreneurs from Kupwara and Anantnag.
Umar received the award for his noteworthy contributions to Agri Entrepreneurship and Agriculture Farming.
Excited about the milestone, Umar shared, “Receiving the ‘MFOI Millionaire Farmer of India Award’ at IARI PUSA, New Delhi, highlights the potential within agriculture and the opportunities for innovation and success.”
Umar extended a message to aspiring youth, emphasizing that passion, hard work, and commitment can transform dreams into reality.
He encouraged them to embrace challenges, explore innovative approaches, and contribute to the growth of the nation’s agriculture.
Umar said, “Believe in your potential and pursue your goals relentlessly. The future of farming is in our hands.”
Expressing gratitude, Umar acknowledged the support he received on this journey and stated that the award motivates him to continue contributing to the agricultural sector while inspiring others to pursue excellence.
A resident of Shrakwara Wagoora in Baramulla district, Umar Khan has been instrumental in converting kitchen waste and biodegradable materials into fertilizer by vermicomposting- a solution to the problem of open dumping of garbage.
He has started the process of not only to address environmental concerns but also earning a livelihood.
Umar’s initiative gained momentum after researching the usage of bio-waste as a premium organic fertilizer.
The organic fertilizer produced has significant commercial value, both locally and beyond the borders of Jammu and Kashmir.
