BJP to maintain its stronghold in JMC

Jammu, Jan 09: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is all set to head all the three (3) Standing Committees of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) as no nomination was filed from the Opposition side on the last date for filing of the nominations, official sources informed.
The election for the Chairmen for all the three (3) Standing Committees of the Jammu’s civic body are scheduled be held to be held on twelfth (12th) of this month. Today i.e ninth (9th) of January was the last date for filing nominations.
Neither anybody from the Congress Party nor anyone from the independents filed the nomination papers for election to elect Chairmen of the 3 Standing Committees of Jammu Municipal Corporation. 
“Nobody either from the Congress or any of the independent councillors filed the nomination papers today on the last date, Secretary, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Pari Kour informed Rising Kashmir, adding, “Therefore, the BJP candidates will be elected unopposed”. 
The three Standing Committees of the JMC are namely Swatch Bharat, Public Health and Sanitation and Social Justice Standing Committee.
“As neither the Congress has fielded its candidate and none from the independent councillors filed his nomination for election of the Chairmen of Standing Committees of the JMC, therefore the BJP will head all the 3 committees,” the JMC Secretary further informed, adding, “The official announcement in this regard will be made on 12th of January”. 
The BJP has fielded Gopal Gupta as its candidate for chairman of Swacch Bharat Standing Committee, Subhash Sharma as candidate for chairman of Social Justice Standing Committee and Arun Kumar Khanna as its candidate for chairman of Public Health and Sanitation Standing Committee. 
There are nine (9) members in each Standing Committee and all being headed by the BJP presently as all the 3 Standing Committees have the BJP people as chairmen. 
There are 75 wards in the JMC. The BJP has presently 43 corporators. The BJP had 45 corporators but due to death of one corporator and expulsion of another, the party now at present has now 43 corporators in the JMC.The Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are also from the BJP.
