JAMMU, Aug 19: Top central leaders of the BJP left for New Delhi on Monday evening with a shortlist of potential candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
Reliable sources indicate that the BJP high command is expected to announce the candidates for the first phase of the Assembly elections in J&K within a couple of days. “The leaders namely, Union minister, G Krishna Reddy, Incharge of Assembly elections in J&K, Tarun Chugh, Incharge J&K Affairs, Ashish Sood, will hold a meeting with the BJP high command at Delhi during which the shortlisted candidates would be discussed and their names would be finalized for upcoming Assembly elections,” reliable sources further informed.
The BJP high command will review and finalize the candidates during a meeting in Delhi. The first phase of Assembly elections in J&K is scheduled for September 18th, with the final date for nominations set for August 27th.
The senior BJP leaders flew to Delhi at 7:30 PM after conducting closed-door meetings with the core BJP group and senior leaders in Jammu. They were briefed on the shortlist of candidates for the upcoming elections.
Sources noted, “The names of the shortlisted candidates would be discussed with the BJP high command after which the candidates would be finalized for the first phase of Assembly elections in J&K.”
