Srinagar, Aug 02: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kashmir on Wednesday strongly condemned the “baseless and inflammatory” remarks allegedly made by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti against the Supreme Court of India.
“In a recent press conference, Mufti insinuated that the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Article 370 case would be biased in favor of BJP,” J&K BJP’s Media Incharge Manzoor Bhat said in a statement issued here.
He expressed deep disappointment over the former chief minister’s alleged remarks, stating, “It is extremely unfortunate that an ex-CM is pointing fingers at the highest court of our country, doubting its transparency. As public representatives, we should uphold the sanctity of our institutions and trust the judiciary. Mufti, as the Chief Minister of J&K, had taken an oath on the Constitution of India, and it is regrettable that she is now casting doubts on the very court that upholds our constitutional values.”
Bhat acknowledged the significance of the Supreme Court as the highest judicial authority in India. He reiterated the BJP’s unwavering respect for the court’s decisions, which undoubtedly aim to benefit the common citizens. However, he highlighted the importance of recognizing the dynamic developments in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370.
“The people of Kashmir have realized that Article 370 primarily served the interests of dynastic and corrupted politicians, who exploited the region for the past 70 years,” the youth leader said, adding that the decisions taken under the dynamic leadership of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi have been widely appreciated for their positive impact on the region.
Citing recent examples of progress, Bhat pointed out the government’s decision to permit the Muharram procession in the Kashmir Valley after a ban of three decades. This reflects the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and fostering inclusivity, he said.
Additionally, he highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Home Affairs, facilitating developmental activities in the region.
Manzoor Bhat underscored the significant decline in incidents of stone-pelting in Kashmir, attributing it to the empowerment of the youth through education. The region’s transformation from stone-pelting to penning reflects the government’s success in breaking the backbone of militancy, he said. He also commended the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s active efforts in combating corruption among government employees, ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficient governance.
“The BJP Kashmir reiterates its unwavering support for the government’s initiatives aimed at the holistic development of Jammu and Kashmir. The party remains steadfast in its mission to empower the people and work towards a prosperous and peaceful region,” Bhat said.
